Queensland Government invests in future of gas industry

Australia's peak body for downstream gaseous fuels this afternoon welcomed the Queensland Government's announcement they would expand resource exploration and development for gas in new basins.
Gas Energy Australia Chief Executive John Griffiths said the Queensland Government's investment of more than $27 million over four years signalled huge prospects for gas exploration and production.
"The Queensland Government is recognising the importance of the gas industry and by increasing gas supplies, is ensuring future opportunities for the downstream gas sector and manufacturing jobs," said Mr Griffiths.
"Gaseous fuels can be part of the solution to delivering energy security, reducing emissions and cleaner air while boosting state revenues.
"Gaseous fuels are also not only better for our environment, but they also sustain a range of current manufacturing and technology industries, including some innovative Queensland businesses working at the cutting edge of cleaner fuels.
Mr Griffiths thanked Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dr Anthony Lynham for their commitment to the gas industry. GEA welcomes all steps towards securing additional supply and we look forward to continuing to work with the Queensland Government," he said.
"Gas is not only important as an upstream resource or for export; but for a diverse and regionalised state like Queensland, it offers cleaner energy security, more self reliance and skilled jobs in one of our natural energy advantages."
